Two offices at the heart of French-speaking Switzerland

We welcome you at our offices in Geneva and Lausanne, ideally located to meet your needs. Our team speaks French, English, Arabic, Serbo-Croatian, Portuguese and Spanish. Language will therefore never be an obstacle to your defence.

Me Abderrahim Razi

With a lifelong passion for law, Me Abderrahim Razi holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID, now the Graduate Institute of Geneva) and a Master's degree in Law from the University of Lausanne. He founded the firm Rive Avocats in January 2001.

Thanks to his experience as an associate judge on the Cantonal Immigration Commission, he offers his clients – both individuals and businesses – in-depth expertise in immigration law. This covers a wide range of areas, including obtaining work or residence permits, granting settlement permits, acquiring Swiss citizenship, setting up businesses, and arranging lump-sum taxation schemes, amongst others.

His main areas of expertise also include criminal law, family and divorce law, employment law and commercial law.

Attentive to his clients’ needs, he ensures – like all the lawyers at Rive Avocats – that he provides a service that is both responsive and rigorous.

Me Emina Suljic

Having obtained the specialisation certificate in legal practice and completed her traineeship at Rive Avocats, Me Emina Suljic was admitted to the bar in 2025. Since then, she has developed a marked practice and interest in criminal law, family law, sports law, contract law, administrative law, and litigation, areas in which she places particular emphasis on the rigorous defence of her clients' interests.

Alongside her professional activity, Me Emina Suljic is actively engaged in public life. Since November 2025, she has held a mandate as a municipal councillor in the municipality of Vernier, thereby contributing to the work of the municipal council and to local decision-making.

Deeply involved in the sporting world, she chairs the Geneva Cantonal Karate Association (ACGK) and sits on the committee of the Geneva Sports Association (AGS). Through these roles, she works towards the development, promotion and structuring of sport at the cantonal level.

Me Paloma Dos Santos

Holding a Bachelor's degree in Law and a Master's degree in Economic Law from the University of Geneva, complemented by the ECAV specialisation certificate, Me Paloma Dos Santos has developed a solid grounding in judicial practice.

She joined the firm RIVE Avocats in February 2025 as a trainee solicitor, where she participates in the drafting of legal instruments and the representation of clients before various authorities.

She speaks French, English and Portuguese.

  • Divorce and Family Law

Divorce is generally an extremely sensitive process for those involved. That's why the assistance of a lawyer is almost always essential. Attorney Abderrahim Razi handles all matters concerning the protection of the marital union, agreements governing the effects of separation and divorce, and family law.

    Divorce by mutual consent

Divorce by mutual consent is possible when both spouses agree on the principle of divorce as well as its consequences, including child custody, spousal support, and the division of assets. It can be requested at any time, without any requirement regarding the length of prior separation, provided that the agreement between the spouses is comprehensive.

    Divorce by unilateral request

Divorce by unilateral petition can be initiated by one spouse alone, without the consent of the other. Two alternative conditions allow for its use: either the spouses have lived separately for at least two years, or the continuation of the marriage would expose the petitioner to serious harm to their personal rights. The majority of divorces remain contested and, due to their complexity, require the assistance and advice of a lawyer.

Protective measures for the marital union

When the conditions for divorce are not yet met, particularly if the two-year separation period has not yet elapsed, it is possible to initiate proceedings for protective measures of the marital union. This procedure allows the judge to provisionally settle essential issues, namely the spouses' separate residence, child custody and visitation rights, spousal support, and the allocation of the family home. Attorney Abderrahim Razi assists his clients with these proceedings rigorously and responsively, ensuring their protection and that of their children from the earliest stages of separation.

  • Criminal law

A criminal defense lawyer represents a victim or perpetrator of an offense in court. Their presence is essential as they provide expert advice before, during, and after the trial. Attorney Abderrahim Razi, with his extensive experience in this field, can represent clients before the police court and the criminal court in cases involving felonies, misdemeanors, or petty offenses. Special criminal law is the branch of criminal law that defines the various offenses and their corresponding penalties.

    Court-appointed defense and early defense

The law firm Rive Avocats regularly handles court-appointed defenses and operates within the legal framework of immediate legal representation, established by the Swiss Code of Criminal Procedure. This system guarantees every defendant the right to be assisted by a lawyer from the moment of their arrest by the police, before any interrogation. Attorney Abderrahim Razi thus intervenes from the very first hours of police custody to ensure immediate, effective defense that respects the defendant's fundamental rights.

    Juvenile criminal law

Juvenile criminal law is governed by specific rules, distinct from ordinary criminal law, and prioritizes education and rehabilitation over punishment. The Rive Avocats law firm handles the defense of minors involved in criminal proceedings, ensuring the protection of their rights throughout the process and working closely with the families concerned.

Assistance to Victims of Crime (LAVI)

Attorney Abderrahim Razi assists victims of crime under the Federal Act on Assistance to Victims of Crime (LAVI). This law guarantees victims the right to advice, immediate assistance, and compensation. The firm collaborates with the LAVI Center in Geneva and supports its clients through all the necessary steps to have their victim status recognized and to obtain the benefits to which they are entitled.

  • Labor law

If you have a dispute with your employer, a lawyer specializing in employment law will be the most qualified person to defend your interests.

In particular, Maître Abderrahim Razi will be able to make your employer understand that he has put himself in the wrong and that he has no interest in being recalcitrant given the sanctions to which he exposes himself, especially if the facts that you accuse him of constitute offenses which may, where appropriate, lead to criminal sanctions.

The same applies if you are an employer and have a dispute with one of your employees.

  • Aliens' rights

Immigration law is a branch of law that defines the conditions under which people who do not have Swiss citizenship may be allowed to reside and work in Switzerland.

This branch of law determines, in particular, the criteria that any person applying for an entry visa or a residence permit in Switzerland must meet.

These criteria vary of course depending on the nature and duration of the planned stay, the conditions to be met to obtain a work permit in Switzerland being more numerous than for a simple tourist visa.

Lawyer Abderrahim Razi also handles family reunification applications, which are of particular importance for foreigners who arrived alone in Switzerland and wish to bring their families there.

  • Inheritance law

Inheritance law establishes the rules that apply at the time of a person's death and the transmission of an inheritance to heirs.

In this capacity, Maître Abderrahim Razi plays a crucial role and helps to support certain heirs who feel wronged or believe they have a legitimate claim for the return of certain benefits received by other co-heirs.

Finally, many conflicts can arise as a result of inheritance misappropriation, abuse of weakness, inaction of the notary, or even during the payment of inheritance taxes.

  • Commercial Law

Commercial law determines the rules that commercial companies must follow. When creating a company, a choice must be made between the different legal forms provided for by law.

The partners and managers will then be required to comply with the obligations provided for by commercial law, or in Switzerland the law of obligations.

Your lawyer can provide assistance for a preventative purpose, for example by drafting commercial contracts or company statutes.

He can also defend you in litigation before the courts, particularly if a company has not fulfilled its obligations to you.

  • Private International Law

Your lawyer will assist you in any dispute involving private international law.

This is a branch of private law that regulates disputes involving a foreign element.

Indeed, international agreements define the status and rights of natural or legal persons when they are no longer on their national territory or when the agreements they have entered into with each other involve contractual or tortious relationships at the international level.

  • Tax law

Abderrahim Razi, a lawyer specializing in tax law, has a thorough understanding of the rules and laws that both the tax authorities and the taxpayer must comply with.

He also has a thorough understanding of the workings of judicial and administrative institutions in Switzerland and can provide decisive assistance in relations between the tax administration and the taxpayer, whether the latter is a Swiss resident or wishes to acquire property in our country.

The main and essential purpose of a lawyer's intervention is to rebalance the relationship between their client (company or individual) and the tax authorities.
